I'm a writer near Raleigh in Pittsboro, North Carolina
"Flash fiction" version
Passionate about farms, food, and finance, I'm a deadline-driven journalist, award-winning author, and poet with 20 years of professional writing experience. From starting in public relations and marketing, then working in UX content strategy and thought leadership production, content creation has been the heart of my work my entire career.
"Short story" version
I believe in designing life around one's values. As such, the core of my writing business evolves over the years. I'm passionate about local food systems and regenerative agriculture. I help writers, beekeepers and ag professionals, and job seekers market themselves. I do this with book marketing plans, strategizing value-added products for agribusinesses, and developing career collateral. By supporting people with my resume writing services as they make their next career move, I help them move closer to living around their values too. In addition to my writing credits, I'm a Journeyman Beekeeper and Certified Permaculture Designer. I love fostering ecologically-minded landscapes that feed bees, wildlife, and my family. Between apiaries in the Pittsboro and Bryson City areas of North Carolina, I steward more than 17 acres.
Writing services over the years
I moved to North Carolina from Long Island, New York in 2007. In 2009, I started my freelance writing business while working in marketing management. Since that time I've written for some of the world's largest brands, and helped professionals at companies large and small. Previously, my services ranged from search engine optimization (SEO) and blog development, to content marketing, and ghostwriting books. I've always enjoyed the variety of industries and people I help support through my writing.
Award-winning author and poet
As a creative writer, I'm seeking representation for my short story collection Rose Window, and a small press for my bee and nature-inspired poetry manuscript Architecture of Bees. I wrote the first guidebook to the Bonnaroo Music Festival, three poetry books, and a guidebook for journalists, Magazine Queries That Worked. My writing has received formal recognition for more than 20 years. I've been a finalist and prize winner in multiple WOW! Women on Writing Flash Fiction Contests, received Honorable Mention in Fiction in the Carolina Woman Writing Contest, and was twice named a semifinalist for the James Applewhite Poetry Prize. I organized writing workshops through two groups I founded and led from 2008-2022: Triangle Writers and Asheville Writers.
Curious how to pronounce? Tara Lynne Groth rhymes with Marilyn Moth.

The "novel" version
Before starting my writing business I was a registered loan officer and Realtor, a public relations director, and a marketing manager. I've worked in UX content strategy, artificial intelligence product development, thought leadership, and corporate sustainability. While it may seem unrelated to these fields, I originally had an interest in screenwriting, and I received my bachelor's degree in cinema and cultural studies from Stony Brook University. I always look at how imagery and design tell a story. My degree's focus on culture also makes me hyperaware of audience perceptions, which is useful in all of the work that I do. I'm also a Certified Professional in Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC).
Freelance journalist
With a passion for farms, food, and finance, my bylines appear in GRIT, Produce Business, Vegetable Growers News, Market Watch and more. My magazine writing ranges from reporting how to incorporate technology for agro-marketing purposes, to increasing crop yields through vertical gardening. I love learning about extraordinary people and writing about them. Among the many subjects I've interviewed, some include an artist who creates art for the blind, an Oscar nominee, and comedian Bill Burr.

Educator and mentor
As a conference speaker and workshop host I've presented at dozens of events. Some highlights include presenting top blogging practices at the now-former Times Square headquarters of the American Society of Journalists & Authors, to being invited as the keynote presenter of a multi-day retreat on a farm. My author marketing workshops have ranged from half-day events, to 11-week classes. I've been an education provider multiple times for Duke University's Osher Institute and Wake County Schools Lifelong Learning.

Volunteer projects
Ongoing charitable contributions are important to me and a regular part of my life. In the summer of 2012, I spent a week with 10 strangers in an off-grid cabin in Maine working with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service repairing frost-heaved boardwalks. I've donated time and resources to arts festivals including Raleigh's SPARKcon and Artsplosure, Holly Springs' arts festival, Durham's Full Frame Film Festival, and many more. In the summer of 2022 I helped remove invasive species at a Chapel Hill nature preserve. 3 fun facts about me

Writing memberships
It's a professional achievement to become a member of the American Society of Journalists & Authors (ASJA). ASJA is an invitation-only network of nearly 1,200 independent working writers. I'm so proud to have been a member from 2012-2022 and can't say enough great things about this organization. As my writing offerings have changed with market demands and seasons of life, I decided not to re-new my membership and may join again some day.
I'm currently or have been a member of the American Society of Business Publication Editors, Atlanta Writers Club (previously Vice President of Marketing), The Authors Guild, Freelancers Union, North Carolina Poetry Society, North Carolina Writers' Network, Triangle User Experience Professionals, Winston-Salem Writers, Writers Group of the Triad.
