I'm a writer near Raleigh in the small town of Pittsboro, North Carolina

Tara Lynne Groth
Short bio
My business currently focuses on writing books and resume writing. Over the years the core of my work has ranged from search engine optimization (SEO), blog development, content marketing, to journalism. I've written for some of the world's largest brands, and help individuals advance their careers at companies large and small. I started freelancing in 2009 while working in marketing management, and I love the variety of industries and people I help support through my writing.

Author and poet

I wrote the first guidebook to the Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2010 and I've published 3 poetry books. My guidebook for journalists Magazine Queries That Worked released in June 2017. As a creative writer, I'm looking for an agent or small press for my short story collection. I was a Top 10 Finalist in the WOW! Women on Writing 2018 Winter Flash Fiction Contest, placed second in the 2016 Women on Writing Summer Flash Fiction Contest, received Honorable Mention in Fiction in the 2015 Carolina Woman Writing Contest, and was a semifinalist for the 2015 and 2016 James Applewhite Poetry Prize. I lead writing workshops through two groups I founded: Triangle Writers and Asheville Writers. I also support Raleigh's largest group of poets, Living Poetry.

Curious how to pronounce? Tara Lynne Groth rhymes with Marilyn Moth.

Long bio
Before starting my writing business I was a public relations director and marketing manager. I now use my marketing experience and journalism background to produce engaging content relevant to target audiences in transactional digital experiences. My bachelor's degree is in cinema and cultural studies (Stony Brook University), so I'm always looking at how imagery and design tell a story. My degree's focus on culture also makes me hyperaware of audience perceptions. This all comes together when I collaborate with user experience design (UXD) teams in my content strategy work. I love working in UX on Agile teams and I'm also a Certified Professional in Agile Coaching (ICP-ACC).

Freelance journalist

With a personal passion for farms, food, and finance, my bylines have appeared in GRIT, Produce Business, Vegetable Growers News, Market Watch and more. My magazine writing centers on profiles and agriculture, reporting how to incorporate technology for agro-marketing purposes, and increasing crop yields through vertical gardening. I also love learning about extraordinary people and writing about them. Among the many subjects I've interviewed, some have included an artist who creates art for the blind, an Oscar nominee, and comedian Bill Burr.

Educator and mentor

As a conference speaker and workshop host I've presented on search algorithm changes and digital trends. In 2013, I presented top blogging practices at the now-former Times Square headquarters of the American Society of Journalists & Authors. My author marketing workshops ranged from half-day events, to 11-week classes. I've been an education provider multiple times for Duke University's Osher Institute and Wake County Schools Lifelong Learning.

Volunteer projects

Ongoing charitable contributions are important to me. In the summer of 2012 I spent a week-long volunteer vacation in Maine, working with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to repair trails. I've donated time and resources to arts festivals including Raleigh's SPARKcon and Artsplosure, Holly Springs' arts festival, Durham's Full Frame Film Festival, and many more.
